FORS Version 7 Update is here!

The latest FORS version 7 update information has been published online.

FORS Operators shall ensure that all HGVs are fitted with enhanced safety equipment designed to reduce the risk of close-proximity collisions involving vulnerable road users.

Mandatory:-

  • Nearside camera monitor system
  • Blind spot information system. This is defined as “Equipment that provides an audible output to alert drivers of other road users near to the vehicle in a driver blind spot. This could be achieved through different technologies (eg radar, or ultrasonic). Some technologies may also provide visual outputs to drivers, and some may only provide audible alerts where a collision is imminent.”
  • Rear camera
  • Audible left turn warning
  • Reversing alarm
  • Articulated vehicles must not activate on articulation of the trailer.

Recommended:-

  • Blind Spot Information system (this is defined as a system that “warns the driver when a collision is imminent and does not activate in relation to non VRUs eg street furniture”.
  • Offside Camera monitor
  • Moving Off Information system. Eg Front Radar
  • Manual cut switch to mute sound between 23:30 and 07:00.

In Summary:-
Current FORS Sidescan systems are OK, however DVS Phase 2 Equipment is now being recommended.
